Thank you all, for your wonderful and entertaining guesses! The one I loved most (in terms of amusing me) was the one from Pragni. I wish to quote her here so you can all have a hearty laugh if you missed reading her comment – “Karela and mint with lime.. Though I’m sure looks are deceptive in the case of this juice.. it looks good, but it definitely tastes bad.. like one of those nutritious coca-cola looking things our parents forced on us (or still do!)” Hahaha! Pragni, I must tell you that this tastes anything but bad. It’s like an in-between of Jal-jeera and the pani made for pani-puri. So there you go, you don’t have to force it down your throat b’cos you will love it!
Another really amusing concoction was by Anu. Here’s what she said – “Madhuri – I’ve cracked the code! This is 1 cup of green peas, 1 cup of spinach, 1 cup of karela, 1 cup of green jello, few neem leaves, few bamboo shoots, some green garlic, some plain old green grass (cleaned up of course), fresh green lime zest and a dash of lime juice! PS: Even my farmville cows would not drink this!” What a concoction that is Anu!
This was really a fun-exercise, and everytime I logged on to check for new comments, I was laughing hard. (Psst, the neighbours must think I’m gone crazy now!). Since it was so much fun, I’m thinking we should do this often so we can all have a few good laughs and lighten up! Much needed in our routine, monotonous grind, don’t you think? Do take your time and read through all the comments, and I’m sure you’ll get more than your share of laughs for the day! 😀
Most of you if not all, got it right! It is indeed a healthy concoction of Mint with a dash of lime, a hint of sugar, salt and some kala namak thrown in for good digestion. This is a really refreshing drink that we love to have everyday during Summers. I make a huge jugful every 3-4 days and this is what we reach out for when we get home from work, instead of a can of coke or any fizz drink. This is way healthier and way, way more refreshing!
- Pudina/Mint leaves – one bunch (cleaned and leaves picked)
- Lime juice – from 1 large lime
- Sugar – 3 tbsps
- Salt – as required (add slightly less since you’re also using kala namak)
- Kala Namak/Black Salt – 2 tbsps
- Water (preferably chilled) – 1 1/2 litres + 1/2 cup (standard cup size)
- Blend the picked pudina leaves along with the salt and sugar, and 1/2 cup water, to a smooth paste.
- Transfer paste to a big vessel. Add 1 1/2 litres water, kala namak and lime juice. Stir well.
- Allow to sit for atleast a half hour in the refrigerator.
- Serve chilled for the most refreshing khatta-meeta drink ever!
Pudina/Mint is an excellent anti-oxidant, and kala namak is extremely good for digestion. No juice can get healthier than this! So what are you waiting for? Go make some and enjoy the refreshing taste of this one. Im sure you’ll love it!
This is going straight to my very own event ‘Serve me Some – Juices, Shakes, Smoothies‘ which is going on all this month. I’ve received some wonderful entries so far. Go on and rush in yours if you haven’t already!
