Coconut Pedas

Diwali spirit continuing, I decided to try my hand at another sweetmeat!

This is one of the simplest and easy-to-make sweets. And they turned out quite yummy too! I tried 2 variants – Kesar flavour and Chocolate flavour.

Ingredients:

  • Condensed Milk – 1 tin
  • Desiccated Coconut – 4 cups (3 cups for the sweets and 1 cup to roll the pedas on)
  • Kesar – few florets (grind in 2-3 drops of milk and keep ready to add)
  • Cocoa powder – 20 gms

(Note: Make sure to get freshly packed desiccated coconut from the market. Else, the sweet will reek of old copra smell!)

Serves: Makes 26 pieces in all

Method (Kesar flavour):

  • Pour 1/2 tin of condensed milk into a bowl.
  • Add the kesar which has been been ground with milk and mix well.
  • Gradually add 1.5 cups of the desiccated coconut and mix all the contents well to get the consistency of a soft dough.
  • Take walnut sized pieces and shape into pedas.
  • Spread some desiccated coconut on a plate. Roll the pedas in coconut.
  • Store in a dry, air tight container.

Method (Chocolate flavour):
